About the Event

A 3-hour lecture in English on Introduction to Sports Law followed by an hour of questions and answers. We will see together the history of sports law: its first steps by looking at sports law in Great Britain and France to then examine the structure of sports law in Canada and Quebec which is unique .Indeed Canada has inherited both legal systems. We will also examine the legal nature and functions of international sports law institutions such as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), WADA (anti-doping), the IOC, etc. as well as the functioning of international and national federations. We will also address some major issues and challenges of sports law in 2020, including corruption, match-fixing, racism, Covid, harassment. It should be noted that this course is only an introduction to sports law, a complex subject normally taught in the second cycle in a one to two year program. It would be illusory to think of mastering the subject in 4 hours. This course does only purport to give a global view of what this new law encompasses as well as the Lex Sportiva
